Veneziano’s Mike Wells on preparing for barista competition

One of our young gun baristas at Veneziano Coffee Roasters, Mike Wells, talks to us about preparing for barista competitions. With the recent announcement that Melbourne will host the 2013 World Barista Championship, we expect to see a record number of competitors in the state competitions in the lead up to the nationals, with the aim of ultimately competing in the the world championship on home turf.

Mike was first introduced to Veneziano through Blefari Caffe e Cucina in Adelaide where he worked as a barista, before taking up the offer to become head barista at the First Pour Adelaide and Veneziano’s coffee trainer in South Australia.

Brisbane First Pour Latte Art Smackdown

Last night’s latte art smackdown at Veneziano’s First Pour, Brisbane was videoed by The Beanstalker. See the video he shot – on his phone – of the two finalists – Mike Tamm and Josh Russell – in their last elimination rounds and the final. Congrats to Josh on the win, and thanks to all the Brisbane baristas who competed, we hope you enjoyed the comp.

First Pour Espresso Bar and Showroom comes to Adelaide

Veneziano Coffee Roasters has just opened a First Pour espresso bar and specialty coffee showroom on the site of a completely refurbished former book store premises in Melbourne Street, North Adelaide.

The speciality coffee roaster has a number of long-standing and dedicated cafe customers in South Australia, including Argo on the Parade, Blefari Cafe, Restaurant Tranquilo, Sazon Espresso, Lime 2 Cafe, Jenny’s Gourmet Bakery, Lunchroom Espresso Bar and Chocolate @ No. 5 amongst them and saw it fit to bring its showroom concept to coffee-devoted Adelaide.

First Pour West End to host Latte Art smackdown
